ranks - - * There is no real rank system within the packs. The adult canines hunt and fight for their pack, while the pups, expecting females or females caring for pups, and canines who are no longer capable of fighting or hunting stay within the center of their land, protected by their packmates. The leaders and seer are the only ones who can use the magic of their pack's Thriene. If another canine in their pack tried to use it, or a creature from another pack did, they would not be able to use its magic. There are two leaders, one male, one female; they are a mated pair. The leaders are in charge of everything - wars, hunting parties, you name it. When a leader is chosen, they will choose their heir ( oftentimes, one heir is their pup ) and pass on their position to the chosen dog when they are too old or die. If a female leader has pups, her place will be taken by a heir or the seer while she cares for them. A seer, also known as a soothsayer or healer, is the spiritual leader. He or she will choose their heir in the same way of the leader, but their heir often stays with them to train and learn. A seer is specially trained in the art of healing, and they also know a few tricks with Lren ( magic ).
terms - - ; Ventura pack ( venn - ter - uh ) ; A pack of wolves that live within the Feirn. One of the original founding packs. The Ventura pack possesses one of the Thriene, a diary. Their Thriene allows them to see things happening in the present time - but not hear - and gain knowledge about specific things. Seori pack ( see - or - ee ) ; A pack of coyotes that live within the Feirn. One of the original founding packs. The Seori pack possesses one of the Thriene, a crystal shard hanging on a string. This shard gives them the power to change the lay of the land, but only a few minor details, like giving more water to their streams, growing grass, etc. Straumura pack ( straw - murr - uh ) ; A pack of dogs that live within the Feirn. One of the original founding packs. The Straumura possesses one of the Thriene, a watch dangling on a silver chain. Their Thriene lets them go back in time - not forward - for only ten minutes and see small flashes of the future ( however, one may only see these flashes on a full moon, which is about once a month ). Pareil pack ( pay - reel ) ; A pack of various species of deceptive canines that live along the edges of the Feirn. This pack was formed after a rebel against the new laws. The Pareil pack was not given a Thriene, but they created their own - the Tsin, a round stone that let them control all the powers of the Thriene. Thriene ( thrine ) ; Three special items possessed only by the Ventura, Seori, and Straumura. The Pareil once owned a Thriene, the Fuiene ( fwen ), but it no longer lays in their paws. Only the leader of each pack, and the soothsayers ( also known as healers and seers ), can control the power of the Thriene. Other packs or subordinates cannot use the Thriene until they go through a special ceremony. Kelmn ( kellm ) ; A special ceremony that leaders and seers go through so they can use the power of their pack's Thriene. The canines go to a dark cave on the full moon and the seer says a few special charms. Then the newly-made leader or seer sleeps in the cave until dawn. Sibyl ( sib - ill ) ; Wandering canines who are said to possess magic powers; they resemble seers. They can do practically anything with magic, depending on how skilled they are; however, their magic does have limits, as do their spiritual powers. They cannot, for example, gain complete contact with their ancestors nor can they summon, build lands/realms, etc. Lren ( le - ren ) ; Magic. Tsin ( ti - sinn ) ; The fourth Thriene, also known as the Fuiene. Laein ( lay - in ) ; Planet Earth. Feirn ( farn ) ; A large stretch of land that the four packs live upon, consisting of various landscapes.
gods - - ! Feina ( fay - nuh ) ; The female goddess of all the canines. Verdn ( verr - din ) ; The male god of all the canines. Litenr ( lit - in - er ) ; Male god; son of Feina and Verdn. Known for his noble yet rebellious attitude. Keaid ( kayd ) ; Female goddess; daughter of Feina and Verdn. Known for her longing for peacefulness between the packs and her great sacrifice to save them from the Pareil's evil Thriene, the Tsin.
